The Sita Amman Temple can be seen on route to Hakgala along the Nuwara Eliya Badulla Road. The prominent temple architecture will not fail to attract your attention on the way to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens from Nuwara Eliya. According to tradition, the site is associated with Sita of the Ramayana epic. Ancient statues of Rama and Sita can be seen on a side of the temple. The temple seen today is a modern building with its paintings, statues and pillars decorated with sculptures, all depicting the tale of Rama and Sita. The rear of the temple overlooks a stream, while from its front can be seen the Hakgala peaks.
On completion visit the Hakgala gardens.
The Hakgala Botanical Garden was one of the pleasure gardens of King Ravana of the well-known epic Ramayanaya. This garden was expanded during the British period and has a wide variety of flowers including an excellent collection of orchids
This is the exotic pleasure garden where king Ravana kept the depressed Sita, insisting that she marry him. It was here where the heart-warming meeting took place between her and Hanuman, who brought her Rama’s ring with the news that Rama was looking for her. He offered to carry her back but she refused saying it would be an insult to Rama’s honour if he did so. Part of this majestic garden still exists. It is also said that Hanuman nearly destroyed it in order to prove to Ravana of the forces against him.
Although this Vihara is said to be established in the 6th A.D. Polonnaruwa period it has a long history among people of having been started in the time of Rama, Rawana and Sita.
Still revered by thousands, this holy haven was the place where Sita perform
her Agni Pariksha (proving her chastity) to her husband Rama. Continuing the practice for over thousands of years, villagers still pledge their fidelity or take oaths there and even in certain courts, this agreement was binding.
Since that time this place has been respected and worshiped by people down the ages. Furthermore it is said that this place was given the name “Divurumpola” or the place of making a wow. Not only in legends but this name has been inscribed in the moonstone guarding the Devale in the premises.
Thereafter proceed to Bandarawela .
In the afternoon, visit Ella. Ella, a small mountain near Bandarawela, boasts three locations linked to the Ramayana where, local legend dictates, Ravana hid Sita. First there is Ravana Ella Cave, situated in the massive Ella Rock. Then there is Ravana Ella Falls and a nearby pool bored out of the rock by the gushing waters where Sita is said to have bathed.
The Bandarawela hotel is a charming heritage hotel built during the colonial period. The elegant hotel, whose illustrious life began as a European’s – only tea planters club, is a perfectly preserved relic steeped in colonial comforts. Though its location is central, its ample garden and foliage seclude it from the city.
Overnight stay in Bandarawela
Day 04 : After breakfast at Bandarawela Hotel proceed to Colombo via Ratnapura and Sitawaka, Avissawella.
Ratnapura is the fabled city of gems. Its name remains unchanged over the years and means “city of gems”. In Ratnapura prospecting and mining goes on everyday. Visit a gem mine and a museum and strike a bargain at one of the shops.
Sitawaka, situated near Avissawella on a tributary of the Kelani Ganga (river). Not surprisingly it derives its name from Sita, who is supposed to have been imprisoned by Ravana in a grove in this neighborhood.
City & shopping tour of Colombo.
Colombo like many capital cities in developing countries is fast changing its face. Almost overnight, skyscrapers arise from where old buildings once stood. Yet in some parts, the old world charm is retained. For example, there is a 100-year-old clock tower and several British built colonial buildings. He stoped the vimana at this juncture because he felt at this place the “Brahmaasthi Dosham” was not following him. He ascended from the vimana and asked God Shiva for a remedy. God
Shiva blessed Lord Rama and advised him installing and praying four lingams at Manavari, Thiru Koneshwaram, Thiru Ketheshwaram and Rameshwaram in India, as the only remedy to get rid of the dosham.

v GENERAL INFORMATION
Currency
One Sri Lankan rupee is made up of 100 cents.
Currency notes are in the denominations of Rs.10, Rs.20, Rs.50, Rs.100, Rs.200, Rs.500, Rs.1000 & Rs. 2,000. Coins are in the following denominations: 1 cent, 2 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents, 50 cents, one rupee, two rupees, five rupees and ten rupees.
Banking Hours
•National banking hours are from 0900 hrs to 1500 hrs on weekdays.
•Banking hours may be different at private banks.
•Further teller machines (ATM) are operated through out the day.
•Reputed credit and charge cards are widely accepted by shops in Sri Lanka.
What to wear
•Light cotton dresses and lightweight suits. •A wide-brimmed beach hat and sunglasses, comfortable shoes/sandals. •In the hill country a pull over will be necessary. •Visitors should be decently clad when visiting any place of worship. •Beachwear is NOT suitable for temples and shrines. •All visitors to Buddhist and Hindu temples are expected to remove foot ware and hats. When entering the Temples shoulders and knees should be covered. Hotels prefer long trousers for gents during dinner. •Topless sunbathing is prohibited.
Medical Matters
Most of the towns have at pharmacies. Should you require the services of a doctor, please contact the hotel reception and they can arrange for a doctor to call and see you. If you should suffer from tummy upset, this is often unavoidable due to changes in water, food and climate. Stick to plain dry food for a while and drink plenty of bottled water
Swimming and Bathing
We do not recommend swimming in the Red flag area, if the RED flag is flying, this means there are strong currents and it is unsafe. Nude sunbathing is against the law here in Sri Lanka and please makes sure that you cover up when entering the reception area. Please be careful when going out in the sun for the first few days of your holiday, as the tropical sun has phenomenal burring power. Always use a high factor sun cream and remember to drink plenty of bottled water
Tipping
Tipping is customary, but not obligatory. In restaurants and hotels a 10% service charge is automatically added to your bill. However, if you feel that you have had very goods service, an additional tip is considered fair. You may wish to leave your hotel tipping until your departure, as most hotels often pool all tips between everyone. For Guests who go on tour, you may wish to tip your driver/guide, the amount is entirely at your discretion.
Local Transport
Travel by the public transport system is not for the faint hearted. Most of the buses and trains are overcrowded and of poor standard and maintenance, delayed and uninsured. Prices should be negotiated first for short journeys by un-metered taxis or Tuk Tuk’s.
Local Customs
The traditional way of greeting people is by placing your hands together ( as if to pray ) and saying ‘AYUBOWAN’ which means ‘may you have a long life’ the same can be used when saying good bye. The main faith in Sri Lanka is Buddhism. When entering ANY temples or places of worship, correct attire should be worn. Knees and shoulders should be covered and footwear and hats removed.
Photography It is considered disrespectful to stand with your back turned to a Buddha statue/ pictures when taking photos. It is always advisable to ask permission when taking pictures in places of worship or of local people. Many historical and holy places levy a small charge for cameras and video cameras to be taken inside.
Touts Like in most tourist destinations you may (or should we say will) be approached be street touts or beach hawkers with offers to show you the sights or local attractions (Baby Elephant). A polite but firm ‘NO’ will suffice to ward off their attentions.
Service
Should you feel that there are any shortcomings on the services provided by us, please do not hesitate to contact us. (Contact information in welcome letter).
